about

Vivian Chang is a current first-year at Princeton University passionate about fashion design, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

She fell in love with dressmaking during quarantine when her father offered her $20 to learn how to use a sewing machine to hem a set of curtains for their patio door. After watching a few Youtube tutorials on how to use the machine, she realized she was fascinated by how much she could alter the shape an function of a piece of fabric one stitch at a time. She started experimenting on scraps of fabric, old t-shirts, and even old bedsheets from around the house. Her first finished garment was a satin bodice and pencil skirt set for a friend.

Since then, she’s founded the first fashion club at her STEM high school, and has amassed 500,000 views on social media sharing her designs.

At Princeton University, she is Head of Writing of the TigerTrends Magazine, a member of the Fashion Institute of Princeton, and an intern for sustainable fashion start-up InstantReplay.

After graduation, she hopes to work in the fashion tech startup space and eventually start her own sustainable clothing brand one day. With it, she wants to set a new environmental and ethical standard for the fashion industry.
